What is Victron Energy Toolkit
A user-friendly installation and troubleshooting app to
remotely monitor Victron Energy equipment all over the world.
My Role:

This project was a 1 day trial day for a company I applied for a senior product designer.

What?
Create a new landing page in which there is

Clear Structure:
making it easier to detect (future) issues and anomalies in installations. A well-organized layout that makes it easy for users to access key sections like the dashboard, analytics, and alerts.

Prioritization: Thoughtful choices about which features are most prominent based on end-user needs.
Ease of Navigation: Intuitive flow and logical placement of navigation elements.

Visual Clarity: Effective use of icons, labels, and space to create an accessible, user-friendly page.Part 2: Customer Discussion
Target audience
Users owning 100+ installations. This group can be segmented into users owning two different types of installations:
ESS: these are the typical solar installations found in residential areas, consisting of an inverter, solar panels and a battery.
Hybrid generators: these are mobile generators running on diesel fuel and solar.

Project overview
& Challenges

The challenge:
Currently users owning 100+ installations have to dig through all of the data in the installation overview. By making it easier for them to detect issues, they are able to contact their clients sooner and solve issues quicker. We have brainstormed a few ideas for you to consider, but feel free to add anything that seems useful to you:

1.General
The number of sites they have
The number of sites with an alarm
The number of sites with a warning
The number of sites being offline for more than 5 days
Current total/avg yield/consumption/critical loads of the fleet
Scheduled service dates for sites
Battery temperatures

2.ESS
Battery cell comparison between best and worst performing cellSolar peak production mismatch between expected and produced kWhThe difference between the measured battery voltage of the BMS and Inverter ChargerThe difference between forecasted and actual solar production in kWh

3.Generators
Status of generators (idle, on, off)Due / overdue service maintenance (this can be maintenance or fuel)Fuel insights: visualisation of amount, costsPerformance anomalies

Feature mapping

Before starting the wireframing I always create a flowchart of all the interactions. I call it feature mapping consist of
Who - When - Where - What and How
Using this method will reveal all the interaction points and will help to understand where there is room for growth and new business opportunities

Design Ideas

I started my design process by understanding what are the most valuable features to work on which would help the customer the most
I used the design of the current app, trying to solve the issues with information hierarchy.

Design Process

Idea 1 : Most used filters as fixed tags

Like any other app that people are used to. My suggestion was to use the most used , popular filters as fixed tags in this case forexample needs maintanance,Malfunctions or Off-grid.

Idea 2: Using tabs for categorisation

Instead of using tabs we can use tab feature showing also the number of installations with problem so that people have an overview of what is going on in one glance

Idea 3: As a stand alone page called my tasks

The other idea was to what if we introduce a new page called my tasks and all of the installations that are malfunctioning or need to be maintained or receive service be shown there and we can assign those tasks to installers and track if the job has been done or not.
